A couple of IRCops have never been able to keep a channel stable... Sure we
could go through all the ways an IRCop COULD protect a channel, but that
still >hardly< guarantees stability. It is nothing for someone to request
a list of all the ops on the channel, hop on a nukable server (of which
there are indeed a few left), nuke it, create the clones of the ops and
away they go.

I don't really keep track of the nukable euro-trash servers anymore, but
the two I know of which are nukable are: irc.virginia.edu, and
irc.iastate.edu (and anything hubbed to iastate). This should help you
from having the channel actually taken over. But it wouldn't help you from
having mass collides and loosing all ops.

>From this point (assuming all ops were lost), having a couple ircops on the
channel would help in that they could 'restart' their connection to one of
their hubs and come back with ops and redistribute the ops from their.

But don't think that just because you have a few IRCops on a channel it is
going to solve your problems. I know of quite a few channels with more
than one IRCop that is taken over on a less than regular basis, but it is
still taken. And we all know #macintosh would be a prime target on an
evening "IRC Bullies" deemed important to Mac users.

I'm really not trying to rain on anyones parade like it might seem. Just
laying down the facts. If Guy Kawasaki's visit is legit and you plan to
have it on EFnet, understand their isn't a LOT that can be done to stop
disruption, while on a non-hubbed server or ever Undernet, there is a great
deal that can be done to curtail it. I agree both of the latter ways of
IRCing suck, but they were built for situations such as this, where being
moderated without waves is essential.

Just my .25 cents worth.
