"Real life" questions like what? "What would you do if someone came on the
channel and kicked all the ops?" "What is your favorite Macintosh?"
I think that would be even worse... and possibly lame depending on the
questions asked.
Here's my opinion: just nuke the op-request page. It seems like that's all
this mailing list deals with! I'd rather see this list used for #macintosh
Information. I dont know... maybe like for bot-updates, reviews of COOL
public domain (and commercial) software that people from the channel would
like to post, or even recent news dealing with the internet and/or the
Macintosh community.
Really, what good has this list been? 99% of the messages are op request
related.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding of getting ops on #macintosh
can be summed up by a few facts:
1) you should get to know some of the regulars
2) you should not annoy the regulars
3) being on the channel for 6-9 months does not necessarily make _you_ a
regular.
4) practical Mac knowledge is good, but not really a requirement.
5) practical irc knowledge is good, but again, not really a requirement.
Also, I think it should be noted that only once you have permanent ops, I
would say it's an honor to be able to keep the channel under control. Ok,
sometimes not honorable, but a pain in the butt. Anyways, I really think
it's extremely _lame_ to see the opposite kind of response being added to
almost all of the op requests I've seen: "Oh, _IF_ I had ops, I would kick
lamers, and handle problem situations."
I just had to get my 2 cents in too,
