Also, for very computer-illiterate people, use the "refrigerator/table"
analogy for explain hard disks and RAM. The refrigerator is your hd, and
the table is RAM.

Then there are some more complicated things like the plates are
Applications loaded into ram and the food on a plate is a document in that
application. The oven/stove...? Someone? :)

Anyway, this has helped explain it to everyone who has asked me to explain
computers.
