Why does Homer always crash when I do /list?

I'd have to say that there are two reasons for this. The first is a very
important universal thing: Homer does a very bad job. If you switch to another
client, like ircII (UNIX) or ircle (Macintosh) you may not experience as many
problems, in the /list command or anything else that gives you trouble.

The other reason has to do with the delicate IRC servers. There are two
things you can do to get around this. One: you can add arguments to /list,
so the server doesn't have to work so hard. Example: /list -min 30 -max 40
will display the channels that have between 30 and 40 users in them. There
are many more arguments; for a full listing, type /msg ircIIhelp help list.
That should work; if it doesn't, try again in a couple hours.

The second way to work around the server condition is to get a different
server. But I don't think there are really any great servers out there, and
basically one is as sensitive as the next.

I get asked about this quite a lot..
