S: line for MacServ?

#Macintosh Users:

I was reading some documents for ircd the other day and stumbled upon an
ircd.conf line that could be helpful to the users of Homer who want to use
the features of MacServ. In ircd terminology, it's called an "S:" line.
<stands for service line>. This line must be put in by an irc admin and
would solve a few problems that people have been complaining about over the
past few months.

One of the only reasons that I can think of why MacServ is using DCC chat
to do directory listings is that it would flood out. Since Homer doesn't
have the capability for DCC chat, an S: line for the bot is the next logical
idea that I can think of for a server like Macserv.

For those of you who dont know what an S: line is, and don't really wish
to look though the 500K ircd manuals to find out- I'll give a breaf overview.

Slines were developed for service bots that can be put up to
send large amounts of data without being flooded out. This could be
notices, msgs, etc. without using DCC chat services. A big plus for the
Homer fans.

With flood protection taken away, the the S: lined bot is restricted from
joining channels. This would make the bot unusable as an op bot for the
channel #macintosh- which MacServ is currently doing for the most part.

My suggestion- Put two bots online. One bot for the #macintosh channel that
will take care of the channel and DCC services. The other bot will be
used for those that can't use DCC chat, but can still use dcc get/send
features. Hope this will solve a lot of complaints.
